Little Wanderers NYC was recently asked to rescue a cat and her three kittens that were living in an outdoor space. The furry family had been residing in a milk crate in the backyard of a concerned Bronx resident who didn’t know what to do with them. Unfortunately, most animal shelters and rescue organizations were already at full capacity or unavailable to accept new intakes. Luckily, Little Wanderers NYC volunteers received the call and immediately sprang into action. They abandoned their current tasks and headed out to collect the feline family.
Upon their arrival, they observed that a couple of the kittens were in dire need of medical assistance and expedited their transport to the nearest animal clinic for urgent treatment. Despite their valiant efforts to rescue all the felines, two of the kittens unfortunately did not survive. Statistics suggest that the likelihood of survival for cats born outdoors is relatively low at around 25%. However, Flora and her tabby companion, Dandelion, showed signs of recovery following their timely rescue.
After receiving treatment for her cold, Flora’s hunger returned with a vengeance. She displayed remarkable patience during her visit to the veterinarian, almost as if she recognized that they were there to help her. With a curious gaze, she explored every inch of her surroundings. The gentle mother finally found relief in the knowledge that she no longer had to brave the streets or fret about finding food and shelter.
In the meantime, a non-profit rescue group called Little Wanderers NYC, which is entirely run by volunteers, sought assistance from their local community to find foster care for the mother cat and her kitten. Fortunately, a compassionate family came forward and generously provided a home for them. With this loving family, Flora and Dandelion thrived and flourished in no time.
Flora and Dandelion have found a secure and joyful sanctuary in their new foster home. Dandelion, the lone survivor of her litter, has proven to be a resilient kitten with a bold personality. She has taken to indoor living like a pro and can often be found zipping around the house with boundless excitement. Although she is still small, her daring nature knows no bounds.
Mama Flora is always by her daughter’s side, ready to pamper her with a refreshing bath or a gentle face wash. It’s heartwarming to see how content she is with her living space as she takes a tour around it. Her favorite pastime is looking through the window and observing the cute creatures from the safety of her cozy abode.
Flora is a doting parent to her sole furry companion. She observes her lively kitty as she frolics around, causing all sorts of mischief. Dandelion switches between playtime and seeking affection from her mom, relishing in both activities. “It’s amazing to think that just a week ago they were struggling to survive outside, but now they’re content being indoors.”
In just a matter of days, Flora has made significant progress and is almost completely healed. Her adorable little kitten, Dandelion, is also thriving and showing signs of becoming quite lively and energetic.
The mother and daughter in foster care are flourishing with the assistance of dedicated volunteers, and are being prepared for a bright future filled with abundance of food and endless love.
