Moti, an Asian elephant who is 35 years old, was recently saved from almost certain death after being unable to move for 17 days due to a broken leg. The location of the rescue has not been disclosed, but it was carried out by the conservation organization, Wildlife SOS. Moti’s rescue was a heroic effort because he had collapsed from a fracture in his front leg that had gone untreated, causing severe infections in his foot pad and toenails. Furthermore, the lack of proper veterinary care had made matters worse. Moti’s immobility had resulted in hypostatic pressure, which put his kidney and heart functions at risk and further deteriorated his condition.
The situation was deemed critical, prompting the Indian military to collaborate with Wildlife SOS in the rescue of Moti to prevent the dangers of hypostatic pressure. The rescue operation was documented, capturing the remarkable moment Moti was saved from the consequences of prolonged immobility. Volunteers from the charity and army offered care to Moti’s wounds and gave him comfort during the preparation phase before the rescue. Despite the successful hoisting, Moti still bears severe injuries that render one of his legs unusable, making it challenging to transport him to Wildlife SOS’ elephant hospital, which is an 8-hour drive away, especially considering his remote location.
At present, Moti is receiving pain relief medication and assistance to stand. Despite facing various difficulties, he is showing incredible strength by consuming nutritious food and water. Kartick Satyanarayan, who is the CEO and co-founder of Wildlife SOS, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts that led to Moti’s rescue.
The writer praises the patriotism shown by various individuals, including Shiv Kunal Verma and General VK Singh, for their involvement in the successful rescue of Moti, an elephant. The collaboration between the Forest Department and Moti’s caretakers is also lauded for their efforts in safeguarding India’s endangered wildlife. The rescue serves as a powerful example of the positive outcomes that can arise from collective cooperation and compassion during difficult times. Moti’s recovery serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of working together to protect our natural resources.
