My Dog Reacts to My Cancer & Chemo Hair Loss
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, one of my biggest fears was losing my hair due to chemotherapy. As a woman, our hair is such an important part of our identity and losing it can be devastating. However, I wasn’t the only one who was affected by this change in appearance – my dog also reacted to my hair loss in a very interesting way.
At first, I didn’t notice anything different about my dog’s behavior. She continued to cuddle with me on the couch and wag her tail when I came home from treatment. However, as my hair started falling out in clumps, she began to act differently. Instead of jumping on the bed to snuggle with me, she would sit at the edge of the bed and stare at me with a concerned expression.
One evening, I was feeling particularly down about my hair loss, so I decided to make a video of myself shaving my head. As I sat in front of the camera and began buzzing off my hair, my dog entered the room. She immediately perked up and walked over to me, placing her paw on my shoulder. She looked up at me with her big brown eyes and then licked my cheek.
As I continued shaving my head, my dog sat by my side, watching intently. When I finished, she jumped up onto my lap and began licking my head. It was as if she knew that something was different, but she was trying to reassure me that it was okay.
Since then, my dog has been even more attentive to me. She follows me around the house and sits close by when I’m not feeling well. She’s become my constant companion and source of comfort during this difficult time.
It’s amazing how our pets can sense when something is off and react accordingly. I never would have thought that my dog would have such a strong reaction to my hair loss, but it just goes to show how in tune they are with our emotions.
As I continue with my cancer treatment and my hair starts to grow back, I know that my dog will be there every step of the way. She may not understand exactly what’s going on, but her love and support mean everything to me.
