The magnificent elephants are facing an uphill battle to survive amidst the ongoing conflict between humans and elephants. As human population continues to grow, people have gradually taken over forested regions where elephants reside, leaving these majestic creatures with nowhere to call home and limiting their food sources. This unfortunate situation has resulted in long-term starvation for elephants, leaving them struggling to survive.
It’s not uncommon for elephants to venture into human settlements in search of sustenance, but unfortunately, this often results in disastrous consequences. This particular incident involved a group of three elephants who wandered into a village at night in search of food. Tragically, they stumbled into an agricultural well that was dug by impoverished farmers to irrigate their rice fields. These farmers lead a meager existence and the loss of their crops due to elephant raids only compounds their struggles.
Due to lack of funds, the locals were unable to construct a cement wall around the open well. However, this posed a threat to the innocent elephants who found themselves trapped in it. In the morning, the villagers witnessed the distressing situation of the elephants as they struggled to free themselves. Touched by their plight, the villagers came together to assist them. Wildlife officials from the Department of Wildlife Conservation were also informed of the situation and arrived at the location. Realizing the urgency of the matter, they decided that an inclined path needed to be built to aid the elephants in their escape from the well.
They enlisted the help of a backhoe to excavate the soil. The operator was careful in maneuvering the machine around the elephants to avoid any harm. After two hours of hard work, they successfully constructed a ramp. The mother elephant was able to ascend the ramp, but she remained hesitant to abandon her young calf in the water.
The mother elephant positioned herself halfway up the well wall to assist her baby in coming out. She used her trunk to reach for her little one and tried to pull him up. Another elephant joined in the effort and attempted to climb out as well. After multiple attempts, the mother’s persistence paid off and she successfully helped her baby escape from the well.
A mother and baby elephant were in a tough situation, struggling to survive. Despite the easy escape route available, the mother chose to stay and protect her young. Her love for her baby was incredible as she used all her strength to pull the baby with her trunk while supporting it with her leg to prevent it from slipping back into the water. Eventually, the mother’s love triumphed as she successfully pulled her baby out of danger. Although the sight of the gathering crowd made them nervous, they didn’t know that the people were there to help. The villagers used firecrackers to signal and guide the elephants towards the forest, saving three precious lives from drowning in the well. This incident is a testament to the power of a mother’s love, which is not only common in humans but also in the animal kingdom.
